Mos Def has recently been signed to indie label Downtown Records and has recruited the help of Kanye West to produce his debut album on his new label. Downtown Records has no plans to re-release the Grammy-nominated True Magic, which under former label Geffen's tutelage only sold 86,000 copies in the U.S. Home to Gnarls Barkley, Downtown Records may be better adept at public relations and marketing than Mos' last label, but time will only tell.
