For all of you out there who are in the LA area, the musical inspired by Ray Charles' life, Ray Charles Live!, is currently playing at the Pasadena Playhouse through December 23rd. Directed by Sheldon Epps (no relation to Omar Epps) and based from a book by Suzan-Lori Parks, this musical features such hits as "Georgia on My Mind," "Hit The Road, Jack," and "I Got a Woman." Ray Charles Live also features Brandon Victor Dixon, who was recently nominated for a Tony for his role as Harpo in the Broadway production of The Color Purple, in the role of Ray Charles. If your fam's in town and you've run out of ideas on how to keep them entertained and off your last nerve, this might be a good look.
On a related note, Johnny Gill, Malik Yoba, and Tony Terry (word?) are slated to play singer Sam Cooke in a musical based on the late soul singer's life in music. Tour dates as well as theatre info have yet to be announced.
