Neo-Soul is Probably Dead. Who Killed It?

  1. good question...don't know who "killed" it but it's been dead...that's just some name that kedar massenburg came up with to tag the "alternative" soul artists...ironically, most of the artists that it applied to didn't even like the term (especially erykah)...i personally hate the term... i just say soul...

  2. Neo-soul was nothing but a ploy to convince consumers to buy R&B music again. At the time R&B was really on a downside and the only way to revive it was to disguise it under a new genre.
So when Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Musiq, India Arie and others all came out, labels tried to associate them with that new genre to help them sell. As you can see it worked for those that really had talent and they are still here even though the so called "genre" has died.
