Whose 'Shining Star' Is Brighter? The Manhattans Or Earth, Wind & Fire?

For the first Battle of the Beats for the new year I decided to take a trip to the way back with some classic soul courtesy of The Manhattans and Earth, Wind & Fire. The songs up for debate are their identically named tracks, "Shining Star."

But that's where the similarities end because although the songs are roughly from the same era (1980 and 1975, respectively), they couldn't be more different. The Manhattans' "Shining Star" is a love song still fit for any late-night Quiet Storm broadcast, and EWF's "Shining Star" is a funky cut sure to set off many a Soul Train line to this day.

Both songs are timeless classics, so what's it gonna be, jive turkeys? The sweet ode to a loved one or the empowering dance floor ditty? Leave your comments behind next to the Old Spice and Afro Sheen.
