First Spin: Ge-ology

Ge-ology, undermentioned but well-appreciated beat maker to those who know, has lent his production talents to such SoulBounce favorites as Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott and others, as well as producing original tracks on his 2005 work Ge-ology Plays Ge-ology. Thankfully, Ge-ology has laced us with a the Specialty Selections sampler released last month that will satisfy our jones for rarified, authentic soul. The two tracks below demonstrate two sides to his sound. "Superstar" flips Curtis Mayfield's "Gimme Your Love" while Mos Def keeps up with a steady flow. The melancholy mood of "Blues Alley," however, is further enhanced by the sweetly smoky voice of Yukimi Nagano. Pure niceness on both accounts.
