I don't know about you, but nothing the dudes from Outkast do surprises me. At all. I mean, their music has always crossed boundaries and forced people to take notice. They'll forever be progressive trend setters. You did see Idlewild, right?
So when Big Boi, aka Antwan Patton, made the announcement last fall that he'd be using his music as part of a ballet, I didn't even do a double-take. In fact, I found myself laughing and saying it was about time.
Well, the ballet "big" debuted last night in Atlanta as part of a collaborative effort with choreographer Laura Stallings and will run at the Fox Theatre throughout the weekend. According to atlantaballet.com, the groundbreaking event "fuses the visual experience of Atlanta's ballet company with with hip-hop music." Perfect. The show also features the usual Big Boi suspects, including Sleepy Brown, Janelle Monáe, Joi Gilliam, Scar, Big Rube, Rock D, and members of the musical group Konkrete.
If you're in the Atlanta area, we strongly suggest you check this out ... and then tell us all about it. Personally, I can't wait to see it live and in person myself.
