'Soul Train: The Movie'

If you're still reeling from the news of the Soul Train Awards being canceled this year (because of the WGA strike, suddenly), don't fret. The conductor himself Don Cornelius has revealed that he and Warner Brothers are developing a buddy comedy based on the long-running show. It will be titled, appropriately, Soul Train: The Movie.

The project revolves around two male dancers on the show who get into "a lot of good stuff and some bad stuff as well," said Cornelius, who will serve as a producer. It features "lots of music, lots of comedy," he added, as well as "a little bit of violence." He also promised it would be "more than slightly sensual."

"'Soul Train' has always been about sexuality," Cornelius said. "It's almost never been about guys, and almost always about girls. It's what has kept us afloat for these three decades or so."

This could either be the most genius idea we've ever heard or the silliest depending on its execution. I can appreciate almost anything that recalls the disco 70s and has me doing the Hustle on my way out of the theater. Only, this report said nothing about the timeframe of the narrative, which worries me. Also, I checked the date on the report and it does say "April 18" and not "April 1."
