Did you know preliminary noms for the 2008 Black Weblog Awards begin this week? Oh yeah! They sure do! SoulBounce.com is eligible for some nominations because (1) it's a weblog and (2) we're Black. Check out our Staff Page for proof. But there's a variety of categories for which we're specifically eligible. Check out what they are after the bounce and don't forget to start putting in a bid for us on August 1st which, loosely translated, means tomorrow!
Best Blog Design: This category is for blogs that incorporate a unique and eye-catching visual web design. Blog designs must NOT be templates, but fully custom-coded and designed sites.
Huny put her foot in this blog's original, eye-catching template, and a dent in my wallet. But it was so worth it. Fave said this is the best MT design he's ever seen. And many of you seemed to like it as well. I cannot toot my own horn on this one at all. But we deserve that award.
Best Blog Post Series: This category is for a series of posts in a blog about a particular topic. Posts can be fiction or non-fiction, but post series must be linked by a common and identifiable theme with the ability to skip forward or backwards through the series (for judging purposes). Don't make us have to hunt for them.
Best Group Blog: This category is for a single blog which is updated by a group of people (two or more people). This blog can be about any topic. Posts must indicate who the author is for each one; it cannot be one person masquerading as different people (for judging purposes).
The synergy between Your Friendly SoulBounce Editors is undeniable and we each bring something different to the table. When's the last time you've been able to find a group of Black bloggers on one site that you can kick back with and cuss out in the same breath?
Best Music Blog: This category is for blogs that focus on music; blogs can provide downloadable mp3s, and may cover more than one genre of music (preferred). The majority of the blog should be about music, not celebrity entertainment news.
If we aren't nominated for this category I just might spaz. Above all other categories this is the one SoulBounce is meant to win. Why? Because we love music and obviously there was a severe need for this site, as has been expressed to us many times over. Even if we don't always agree on everything, at least we're able to discuss music that isn't just bubblegum R&B and some reprehensible robot music that passes for Hip Hop these days. Also, we actually cater to Black people over the age of 30. That in itself is noteworthy. I cannot even be humble about this.
Best Writing in a Blog: This category is for blogs which have exceptional writing. This category is judged not on a single post basis, but on the overall posts of the blog.
How about we actually write? Even with the least amount of effort we put it down by default. Dope writing shouldn't be confined to your political or newsy blogs. We can do it in entertainment and music as well. Again, no humility on this one as we move along...
Blog of the Year: This category is pretty self-explanatory; the blog of the year has it all: great writing, frequent posts, active comments, and a strong reader base.
Well this would be nice wouldn't it? The only bad thing is that, if we actually won this, then everyone would be forced to step up their game. Now we can't let that happen to the blogosphere can we?
Blog to Watch: This category highlights the best "undiscovered" blog in the blogosphere; keep your eye on this one! This is for that great blog that not everyone knows about...but should!
If all else fails, this would be a pretty sweet award to win and position us to win the big one next year!
Please read over the voting rules carefully. This is important in that it saves the BWA admins some stress and it doesn't disqualify all those pretty nominations for SoulBounce you submit. And yes, we will be reminding you all about this every given moment. A vote for SoulBounce means a vote for quality Black music. Yes We Can!
