New Common & Busta Releases Influenced By Glowstick Wielding Masses?

common-busta.jpgCommon's new release, Universal Mind Control, is now slated for a December 9th release. Are we surprised? The more important question may be do we care since, barring the upcoming presidential election, there has been more drama surrounding UMC's release than the episode of Melrose Place when Kimberly revealed she had a head that looked like Alien Nation. And now that the once-credible Busta Rhymes also has a December 9th release for his new album, B.O.M.B. a/k/a Back On My Bullshit, I can't help but wonder. Is there perhaps a link between the techno-sounding "World Go Round" by Busta Rhymes and the Kraftwerk-Afrika Bambaataa-sounding "Universal Mind Control" as one commenter recently suggested? Perhaps. Read what Common recently had to say to MTV about his new "dance" album (his words, not mine):

"Where I am with Universal Mind Control, which is the name of the album as well as the single, I wanted to make some music people can enjoy," he said. "It's a lot of stuff going on in the world right now. Sometimes people need to release. I felt that energy abroad, going to different parties in Spain and London, even back in the States."

Did he just mention Spain, whose islands of Ibiza and Majorca are the undisputed glowstick and foam party capitals of the world?

My theory? Both Common and Busta are being lured to perform in European countries by an underground Spanish organization as part of some elaborate scheme to finally make Techno acceptable to the U.S. In turn, Common and Busta will encourage further tourism to the area and strengthen the Euro's value even more. Common and Busta will then unleash the new genre "Glow Hop," a melding of Hip Hop and Techno. You think "Ayy Bey Bey" is annoying? Wait until Glow Hop comes on the scene.

Far fetched? Maybe. But you have to admit the release of both these albums, one anticipated, the other not, and the similarity of the "danceability" of the respective lead singles is strangely coincidental to say the least.
