'Do The Right Thang' Not As Ludacris As You Might Think

I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about this pairing when I first saw that Ludacris had teamed up with Common for "Do The Right Thang" from Luda's November 25th release, Theater of The Mind. My interest piqued a bit once I saw that 9th Wonder provided the beat which evokes a whimsical, yet curious feel that fits the song's topic. The topic is one that is usually the fodder for "conscious" rappers such as Common, speaking to the youth and telling them that they are worth much more than they may believe. In retrospect, who would be better at telling the youth to "do it right like Spike" than Spike Lee himself who is featured on this track as well. I'm not going to speak about Common's mediocre rhyme skills on this track right now, but I will say that I'm hoping The Believer, his next album due after Universal Mind Control, is less dance, more rhyme. In the meanitme, this track is a nice respite from the non-recession proof rhymes peppering Hip Hop these days. [H/T: OKP]
