Femi Kuti Readies New Release 'Day By Day'

femi_kuti-day_by_day_cover.jpgAfrobeat has certainly come a long way into making it into mainstream consciousness. After the death of his father Fela Kuti, whose life has been explored beautifully and to rave reviews in the musical Fela!, Afrobeat as a genre seemed to go underground, relegated to the amorphous hodgepodge of "World music." While Fela's son Seun Kuti released his debut album, Many Things, earlier this year and garnered great reviews, it is his older brother Femi Kuti who has been carrying his father's torch longer and is as just a great saxophonist as his father was. Well known for his stage shows that are as close to Fela's as we'll get to experience live, Femi is taking to the road to promote his new album Day By Day. Some of you may remember his appearance on "Water Get No Enemy" from the Fela tribute album Red Hot + Riot: The Music and Spirit of Fela Kuti 10 years ago. If you're not familiar with Femi, get familiar, and definitely be prepared to be wowed by witnessing him live at a stage near you. Tour dates and a lil' somethin' somethin' after the bounce. Thanks to Giant Step for the hookup.
