VH1 Soul's 'Soul Cities' Goes Deep

We've no doubt seen countless episodes of television dedicated to the artists that we all know and love for their soul. Which is great, and satisfying. Tonight, however, the script gets flipped a bit as television instead focuses its cameras on the soul found in different cities across the nation. Those of you who have VH1 Soul are most likely already in full anticipation of the show VH1 Soul Cities, which follows host Nelson George as he explores the artistic, cultural, and political vibe of six cities, the first of which is the birthplace of Will Smith, Teddy Pendergrass and Jill Scott: Philadelphia. George gets in deep with the super city that defined an era with its sound as he chats with supergroup Labelle over soul food, discusses classic R&B with superproducers Gamble and Huff, and drums up conversation with super percussionist ?uestlove of The Roots. George also gets down inside what's been dubbed the ultimate R&B music store, and hits up Geno's for its famous cheese steak. He does it all. Future weeks will see Nelson kicking it in Chicago, the Bay area, New Orleans, Memphis and Los Angeles, with next year's cities including Brooklyn, Miami, Atlanta, Detroit and Dallas. Don't see your city listed? Don't fret. this station and this series is one that embraces culture, so anywhere soul is, it's sure to be. Now, for those of you lucky enough to have VH1 Soul, hurry and set those DVRs. As for me (grrr, Time Warner), I'll be anxiously awaiting your reviews of tonight's premiere in the comments section.
