A Mixtape Worth It’s Weight In Free: Mustafa’s Renaissance

melox-mustafas_renaissance.jpgLet me just start off by saying that it takes a lot for me to download a mixtape onto my hard drive. It takes even more to have that mixtape linger on said HD after a cursory listen, and even that much more for me to recommend it to a friend. That being said, dear friends, it is my pleasure to recommend DJ/emcee/producer MeLo-X's newest mixtape, Mustafa's Renaissance. Featuring some of my favorite up-and-coming artists such as Theophilus London and Jesse Boykins III (who deftly collaborated together on this gem), MeLo-X is not only repping hard for Brooklyn, but for bringing the realness back to music in general. It's so welcome to know that there actually exist musicians in Hip Hop instead of the overzealous, unwarranted, and undeserving emcee's that continue to dominate this genre of music. In actuality, this mixtape swings between extremes of not only Hip Hop and House, but includes some soul-stirring atmospheric R&B, some synth-heavy head-nodding instrumentals, and an acoustic guitar track. Plus, it's entirely listenable from start to finish. Two of my favorites are below. Just press play and don't sleep. Tracklist and download link after the bounce.

  4. Thanks for shinning a light on this. This is a masterpiece of redemption for creativity in Hip Hop. Really in music PERIOD.
Melo-X and are proof that musical solders must be more than violent grunts yelling at audiences. The must be above all else.....MUSICAL. ('d think that would be obvious)
    Hold up the light.

  5. Melo-X is a humble cat, he aint walking around thinking he's the greatest of all times, that speaks volumes. There's an old saying "bad boys move in silence" 🙂 keep doing your thing Melo, continued success whenever you drop your major release I am copping it and thats real talk.
