Hip Hop Violinist Keeps Pulling Strings

Anyone not used to being spoonfed information knows that Hip Hop violin did not begin nor end with Miri Ben-Ari. Since her conspicuous absence from Hip Hop over the past several years, it looks as though more and more young violinists have taken to carrying the torch and reinterpreting Hip Hop in their own unique way. One of those whose star is especially shining bright these days is Paul Dateh. Classically trained since the age of four, it was only after entering Los Angeles' Thornton School of Music that Dateh decided that Jazz would be his primary focus of study. Not far from the Jazz tradition lies the improvisational nature of Hip Hop, and in the video below, Paul can be seen putting his own spin a number of classic Hip Hop tracks. Joined by DJ Inka One, be prepared to be be impressed with his most adroit skill on tracks by A Tribe Called Quest, Jurassic 5, Ghostface Killah and more. One to watch is truly an understatement.
