The recent news of the Juice Crew film getting the plug pulled was a bit of a blow, but this news that the Run-DMC story will be made into a feature film may satisfy those hungry for more classic hip hop stories on the big screen. Notorious screenwriter, Cheo Hodari Coker, has been tapped to pen the screenplay based on the book Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC--The Authorized Biography by Bill Adler who was the group's publicist. Details are still spilling out about the as-yet-untitled movie but what is known is that it will chronicle the rise of the groundbreaking rap trio made up of Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell, and it will undoubtedly cover JMJ's murder since that served as a sad end to the group's story.
This is without a doubt another movie to get excited about. Theirs is a classic story of rags to riches, triumph and tragedy. There's no word on who will be cast in these roles nor how involved Reverend Run and DMC will be in the production, but if done right, this could be a winner.
Feel free to play armchair casting director in the comments section. Who would you suggest to fill the shoes of the group members, Russell Simmons, Rick Rubin, Steven Tyler from Aerosmith and other key players in the Run-DMC story? Are there any up-and-coming or unknown actors or actresses who the producers need to know about? Have your say...you never know who's watching.
