The Jay-Z & Oprah 'Rap'-Up

Just in case you missed yesterday's meeting of the minds when fellow moguls Oprah Winfrey and Jay-Z chopped it up on her syndicated talk show, there are three things you should take away from their chat: 1) Jay-Z smells good; 2) Someone should've cleaned up his grandmother's old kitchen before they showed up there on the day of taping; and 3) It's confirmed: Oprah can't rap. Not even a little bit. What started as a print interview that will appear in the October edition of O magazine turned into a 30-minute afternoon gabfest based more on the rapper/mogul's impact on pop culture than the giddy school girl crush Oprah openly displayed towards the Brooklyn native. They needed each other. Jay got exposure in front of middle American parents of the kids who used their parents' money to buy his latest album, and Oprah gained new viewers in those same kids (and others who would never ordinarily watch the show), if only for one day.

And it also keeps in line with what has been a stellar 24th season for Winfrey so far, with substantive interviews with both comeback diva and substance abuser Whitney Houston and former child star and alleged incest survivor Mackenzie Phillips being the highlights thus far. Add in the supposedly tense moment near the end of the interview when O and Jay bumped heads on the 'N' word, and it was respectable television. The fact that the words "lemon pie" have a new meaning for some is just an added bonus. Check the full clip below, along with video of how the Blueprint 3 album cover came to life. Pretty dope. Enjoy.
