Janet Gives Us 'Nothing' New, But We Still Love Her

Here's a fact: You will still love Janet Jackson from her head to toes, even after watching this very dull advertisement clothed as a music video, promoting the new Tyler Perry flick Why Did Get Married, Too, which opens today in theaters. The video for the song "Nothing" is, well, nothing much. But, I admit, who cares? Janet is an international staple, part of music royalty, and she can do no wrong even when she is dead wrong. (Poetic Justice, anyone?) For me, her reemergence on the scene as an entertainer is even more welcome as she has become, for many, that last beloved link to her brother Michael Jackson whose death last year is still an unhealed wound for fans. Janet--with her uncanny ability to make her eyes water on cue--presents herself in this video in a very sedate fashion as clips from the film stream throughout. Singing Janet, garbed in a straight-haired wig is juxtaposed with moving images of Movie Janet who is breaking things, crying and being consoled by her movie friends that include singer/actress Jill Scott. Though I'm not one to give much of a damn about what someone is wearing, the jury is still out on how I feel about the MC Hammer-ish capri pants Singing Janet wears with heels. I'm pretty sure this is one remnant of the '90s that did not have to show its face again. The other '90s throwback is the entire sound of the song, which sounds almost exactly like her song "Again" from her 1993 album Janet. Don't believe me? Well, how about giving both a listen yourself and then leaving your feedback.
