  1. Dying at age 43 is still young to me. Guru left an indelible mark in Hip Hop history. R.I.P.

  2. Wow. R.I.P. Guru. I am saddened by this. Definitely another one of the LEGENDS of the game is gone too soon. Mass Appeal is one of my favorite hip-hip songs of ALL TIME & I'm glad you chose to post that video..... That song/video is the personafication of hip-hop in my eyes.

  3. R.I.P. you will be missed! R7Soulkidd put it best, A true legend

  4. Gangstarr was classic hip hop. I'm saddened by the loss of Guru and even more saddened that he never squashed the beef that he had with Primo. For Guru to deny Primo any ability to show honor to him and their group is kinda gansta.

I don't trust that letter at all...just like I don't trust all the other 'statements' that come out since Guru was hospitalized. Just like ?uestlove said, 1) Guru was in a coma, and 2) GURU WAS IN A COMA!!
I will say this, though...this could pretty much be the single worst day in Solar's life. Since he has been the main one getting in the way of any one of Guru's former associates ever reconsiling with him, a lot of people will be asking Solar for an explanation. In the cases of both Big Shug and Bumpy, they'll be asking him really hard.
Things are going to get real ugly.

  6. Rest in peace! i was hoping he was going to make it through this illness.

  7. That letter is super shady. It sounded very legalese. We'll always have the music though. Can't take that away.

  8. Just to play devil's advocate ...
I agree, the letter is weird, but I don't know if I'd go as far as saying he didn't write it just yet. That very well could have been done before he even went into the coma upon learning his illness was terminal. My grandmother was very ill in her last days and all of us were amazed at just how extensive her last requests and thoughts were when they were revealed after she passed.
As for Solar ... I'll keep my views on the nature of their relationship to myself, but I would not be so quick to throw stones at him. Unless you come from a screwed up family - my dad's side of the family is jacked to high heaven - you will never understand the inclination to cut people off who are your blood. We don't know what could have been going on in that family or with Premier for that matter, and maybe, just maybe, Solar was the only person the man trusted in his last days. I agree that it is odd, but these things do happen. We'll never know. Regardless, anytime a family is in turmoil amidst this kind of loss it is sad for all involved. The whole situation is tragic. He passed way too young.

  9. R.I.P. Guru. You will be missed, brother.
