This week the DMV experienced unseasonably warm, record temperatures that had me thinking that Summer had taken up residence early, and I wasn't the least bit mad. The temps have cooled off to greet the weekend, but I only need to press play on the song below to turn up the heat once again. Gilles Peterson's Havana Cultura Band reinterpreted J Dilla's "Welcome to Detroit" with an Afro-Cuban twist of lime on Marc Mac of 4Hero's remix to "Think Twice." Featuring the sultry vocals of Danay & Carina, this song is all fresh pineapple, mojitos, palm trees and sweaty, sun-kissed brown bodies. Taken from the forthcoming release Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura Remixed, the album also features remixes from Louise Vega, MJ Cole, Carl Cox, Seiji and many more adding their sonic spices to the project. Color me excited to hear the rest of this. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to listen to this track for the umpteenth time today and plan a much-needed getaway that involves a window seat, warm sand between my toes and getting more freckles.
