I don't know about you, but I count Love Jones as one of the best love stories of all times. I'll be real, that credit is due, not only to the sizzling chemistry between Nia Long and Larenz Tate, the earthy visuals and relevant plot, but the soundtrack was and is a classic treasure. It's one that you can play today and still vibe with from start to finish. One of the unforgettable cuts on the CD was "Hopeless" by Dionne Farris, who we first got a tease from when she sang on the Arrested Development hit "Tennessee."
After the bounce
Since the Love Jones soundtrack, I'll be real though, I've been scratching my head wondering where Dionne's been. While the GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter was recognized for her single, "I Know," from her debut album, Wild-Seed Wild-Flower,
Dionne's follow up work hasn't seen the mainstream exposure she experienced earlier in her career. SoulBounce was excited to talk about her last release, Signs of Life, in 2008, sharing her single "For U," and we anxiously waited for more.
Fast forward to now, and we are so happy to learn that she has been touring relentlessly while working on a brand new album, On Top of the World. Details on the album are sketchy, but word is that it is due later this year and if it's anything like her past work then we're in for another noteworthy set. Check out this video of Dionne belting the song "Remember My Name" live from a recent concert.
Wow. If that doesn't have you ready to see Ms. Farris when she comes to your town, then I don't know what will. DMV Bouncers will get the opportunity to do just that when she headlines the grand opening of the 2010 Can A Sista Rock A Mic? Music & Arts Festival on Wednesday, June 9th at Liv. Also on the schedule is Bounce-Worthy inspirational songstress, Leah Smith. We're huge supporters of CASRAM, so SoulBounce will definitely be in the place and we encourage you to be there, too. Purchase your tickets now at Eventbrite so that you wont get left out.
