Out of all Michael Jackson's recordings, my favorites always tend to be his dance tunes. As much
as he could sing the heck out of a ballad, he was even better at getting folks to put
on their dancing shoes and break a sweat. "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)"
is definitely one of those tunes. Whenever this song comes on, it's hard to resist the
urge to groove along to it. And what's not to love about it? From the triumphant horns
to Mike's directives to "dance and shout," the song is still the ultimate party starter.

Produced by The Jacksons and written by MJ and his brother Randy, this song is one of
my absolute favorites from the Destiny album. Though the radio edit only clocked in at
three minutes and forty-five seconds, it was enough to sell over two million copies and
send the song into the top 10 of not one, but two Billboard music charts. Not that chart
position and numbers sold mean anything to MJ fans, who simply adore the song for
what it's worth--a funky, dancing good time.
