Cobe Obeah Keeps It Hot With His 'Flames'

We first put you guys up on Cobe Obeah's "Flames" back in December. Now the L.A.-based Nigerian-American MC has finally released a visual to accompany the hot single. In the video, Cobe takes viewers on a tour through his neighborhood, with a few friends tagging along for the ride. While the video features all the elements of a '90's West Coast rap video--party in the yard complete with both a dice and crap game going and a bevy of plastic red cups--the song is far from regular rap video fare. Where most of today's rappers would rather spend their time boasting about money, cars and hoes, Cobe instead reps his Nigerian roots proudly, while bragging about how intelligent his girl is, rather than the size of her gluteus maximus. He continues to set himself apart from today's typical rap video--and some R&B ones, too--with female dancers performing African-inspired moves in place of the usual how-low-can-you-go shaking and popping we've grown accustomed to. This baby-faced emcee provides a much-needed breath of fresh air to a sometimes-stale hip hop scene, making us happy to patiently wait for more.
