'Wake Up' To The Past And Present With John Legend, The Roots, Melanie Fiona & Common

As John Legend and The Roots prepare to release their album, Wake Up!, I've been thoroughly enjoying the first single, "Wake Up Everybody," here at SBHQ. Although reaction from our commentering public wasn't so favorable, perhaps people will be a little kinder and gentler when viewing the fresh out of the oven video from this uber-talented crew of artists. In the video, we see the Legendary Roots Crew playing outside on the steps of what looks to be a courthouse while Johnny and Melanie Fiona trade vocals on the classic cut. They're later joined by Common who ups the eye candy quotient and I don't so much mind his rap on this song now, which I previously thought was unnecessary. The video flashes to people dressed in '70's garb protesting the Vietnam War then with the flip of a sign we're taken to a present-day protest of the War in Iraq. The clip illustrates that the more things change, the more they truly stay the same.
