All Raheem DeVaughn Wants Is 'You'

Taking advantage of music's newest marketing tool, the mixtape, the criminally underrated Raheem DeVaughn has released a cover/remake of the infectious single "All I Want Is You" by newcomer Miguel. Not a week goes by without a third- or fourth-tier talent blessing--and by "blessing" I mean "punishing"--the world with some dark-sided hijacking of another artist's song. In this climate where Auto-Tune creates stars and eager goons rape classics as they wish, it is refreshing to come across a cover that actually improves upon the original. Sure, Miguel's version is cool. But Raheem takes a more soulful approach, with his honey-glazed voice and full harmonies, further demonstrating his apparent love for Marvin Gaye. Rather than phone in his unchanged version of the song, Raheem rewrote the verses. He skipped Miguel's remorseful pleas and all romance to head straight to the bedroom on his reworking. Raheem sings, "Let your body scream out in the tone of falsetto/As I thrust and twist and pull and pin you." Well then. Conscious dudes need love too, right? "All I Want Is You" comes from the mixtape Jackin 4 Beats, Vol 1, hitting the internets on November 29th. Take a listen to the updated track right here.
