Murs & 9th Wonder 'Love H.E.R.' As Much As We Do

Though I've heard of him, I hadn't really listened to much from rapper Murs before today, aside from last year's "Me and This Jawn." All I knew was that he had free-form, wayward dreads and worked with producer 9th Wonder. After watching a string of interviews by him, I'm quite impressed with how he presents himself. It's a shame that intelligent, sensible, well-spoken rappers don't always get the press they deserve, and that for every Lupe Fiasco, there are 12 Waka Slacka Jaws. At any rate, the self-described "vegan backpack rapper" just released the video for his cover of Common's 1994 classic, titled "I Used to Love H.E.R. (Again)." The hard-knocking beat of the original has been replaced with a slowed-down, more soulful situation. Here, 9th Wonder samples one of my father's favorite songs, Black Nasty's "I Must Be In Love," which I thought was pretty dope. The video has enough gold rope chains, throwback hairstyles and other deliberate '90's references to make John Singleton proud.
