B. Williams Makes A Statement With Jay Electronica's 'Announcement'

When Jay Electronica dropped "The Announcement" back in November fresh off of signing with Roc Nation, I thought that the song was OK, but I've come to expect more than OK from him. It didn't really impress me like previous tracks of his did--even with the JFK feature. As is often the case, however, sometimes it takes a remix to make me like a song and dare I say that I love this one from producer/composer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist B. Williams. A longtime friend of Jay Elec's and a protégé of Michael J. Powell, a founding member of Chapter 8 and the producer of Anita Baker's early solo work, B. Williams doesn't just make beats, he makes music. Entrenched in the current Detroit music scene, you can hear how he freaked the orchestration of the original with the addition of piano, strings, horns, bass, drums, and synth lines with additional instrumentation by Derrick Benford. Check out more of B. Williams' work on the GRAMMY nominated/Stellar Award-winning album How I Got Over by Vickie Winans, on Jadakiss' The Last Kiss, and on the upcoming Pharoahe Monch album, W.A.R. As for Jay Electronica, word is that he's about to go into the studio to record his debut album, which we will get this year and hopefully we'll get some more hot-like-fire productions such as this as well.
