'By Request' Collette Covers Erykah Badu's 'Orange Moon'

As I mentioned yesterday, covers of classic songs make me nervous, especially when the artist doing the cover is one whom I admire. There is always a chance that, even with the best of intentions, the result is going to be less than great. So when I heard that Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Collette had covered Erykah Badu's "Orange Moon" -- one of my favorite songs, from one of my all-time favorite albums -- I pressed play with more than a little trepidation. Thankfully, rather than a straight up imitation, Collette chose to increase the tempo and add a little hip hop to the mix, with surprisingly fresh results. The track is taken from her Coco By Request EP, which dropped this past Monday and features a collection of covers including a beautiful version of India.Arie's "Ready For Love" and two exclusive songs from her upcoming album, Revolution. Cop Coco By Request here for a very fair $5, and stay tuned for more from Collette, who is now a member of the Righteous Music Media family alongside SoulBounce fave Darien. Don't know about you all, but I'm crossing my fingers that a duet from those two may be in the works.
