Welcome To Jimetta Rose's 'America'

Although this video just premiered last week and the song dropped last year, Jimetta Rose's "America" couldn't be more timely after the events of the past 24 hours. Taken from her January 2010 debut release, The Barber's Daughter, "America" takes the United States to task with lyrics as hard hitting as the beat on top of which she sings. The video was filmed on January 1st of this year during and after the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA and the Los Angeles native was caught on film by director Ryan Spencer. Images of police on horses, American flags waving, and Jimetta singing while dressed in an "I Am Nappy" t-shirt as one of the few people of color in the crowd coupled with the song make for quite a thought-provoking combination.
