Tall Black Guy Takes Us To 'Hollyweird 2.0'

This week Tall Black Guy, or TBG for short, returned to bless us with another
installment of the Hollyweird series. Hollyweird takes listeners on a soulfully funky
journey that experiments with West Coast sounds and TBG's Midwestern roots along
the way. Hollyweird 2.0 is laced with musical and cinematic
treats that elicit both nostalgia and surprise at the innovative use of these classics. "I
Wanna Play Summthin' For You" is a lovely example of this as the track starts off with the
velvety voice of a one Mr. Darrius Lovehall (Larenz Tate circa Love Jones). Hearing his
smooth "Uh, you mind if I play sumthin for you..." instantly takes you back to the Love
Jones
scene set to Duke Ellington and John Coltrane's "In a Sentimental Mood." The twist,
however, is instead of the mellow jazz standard we know and love TBG gives us a funked
up version, which makes you want to get a dance or two in. A perfect blend of relaxed
and groovy, Hollyweird 2.0 can easily be put on repeat and set the backdrop to just about
any activity. Tall Black Guy definitely leaves listeners awaiting more from his genius, but in the between time you can cop the free download at the Gritty Goat label website. Music like this really makes me think twice
about what I actually spend my money on.
