We 'Know You' Will 'Like' AlunaGeorge

In a few years time we will be able to look back on 2011 as the year that gave us the mainstream resurgence of dubstep (in all its different guises), the breakthrough of electro-emo-R&B (?!?) by the likes of The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, etc., and as the year when the male/female duo became the combination du jour. Off the top of my head there has been Quadron (technically 2010, but everyone is still talking about them), New Look, Funkommunity, 14th, Fly Moon Royalty, iShe & Hezekiah, and Native Sun, plus SoulBounce favorites J*DaVeY finally released their New Designer Drug. And I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. Now London-based AlunaGeorge can be added to that ever-expanding list, comprising Aluna Francis on vocals and George Reid on production, the duo have recently released their latest single "You Know You Like It." Their sound is a familiar mash-up, embracing '90's R&B, pop hooks, and the current bass-heavy production style (I'm sure someone will describe this as dubstep), combining it all into a very catchy package. The video for the track is a simple affair, featuring Aluna and a group of backing dancers taking style tips from Diana Ross & The Supremes and those late '90's/early '00's R&B chicks. I definitely think AlunaGeorge will be ones to keep an eye on as we head into 2012. [H/T: PBB]
