With a voice as wonderfully distinctive as Alice Smith's, I was incredibly curious to hear how she would interpret Cee Lo Green's "Fool For You" in this video that she posted to her YouTube channel. After having it on obsessive repeat for over an hour, saying that the song grabs hold of you is a gross understatement. This is one of those rare moments where the cover of a beloved song makes you feel as though you're hearing it for the very first time. While I adore Cee Lo's original, Smith's cover blankets the song with her rich vocals, creating an entirely new energy. She sings in such a raw and deeply passionate way, giving us permission to feel the realness of falling in love, without apology or inhibition. I am excited to hear more from Alice Smith this year, and in the mean time I'll just go ahead and press play just one more time.
