This little gem dropped unexpectedly into my inbox a few weeks back, and I
completely forgot about it have been selfishly sitting on it since then. CHIDI is a British soul singer who already has one album under her belt (2009's Unrehearsed) and an impressive career as a backing vocalist for the likes of Stevie Wonder, James Brown, and Corinne Bailey Rae to name a few. She is set to release her follow-up effort, Exhale, this May and has gone the 100% independent, self-funded route, meaning what we get is CHIDI the artist with no label interference. The four-track sampler I've listened to gives me high hopes for the full album, and I think you will agree after giving the two tracks below a spin. "Lay Your Head" is a smooth, mid-tempo groove which sees CHIDI telling a loved one to sit back, take some time and relax, whereas "I Want Love" has a funky, '70's-diva feel to it. File this lady alongside Ledisi and Avery Sunshine.
