Stop, Drop, & Roll With Janelle Monàe At The White House

So you say you weren't one of the lucky ones to go to the 134th annual White House Easter Egg Roll nor have the pleasure of seeing Janelle Monàe perform a live set? Well, fret no more, as by the grace of the Internet (and someone's recording device) you can watch Monàe, her band, and an orchestra (!) kick up a storm for the First Family and over 35,000 guests on the South Lawn this past Monday. Yep. Miracles do happen. Now it's no news flash that Monàe can sing and dance circles around people, and she does that here as she plows through an energetic set-list consisting of "Tightrope," "Cold War," and the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." So just expect greatness from her end. Can't say the same about the audience who appear to either be on Lunesta or tired from the egg roll, because they seem down-right lucid. It's Janelle Monàe, for goodness sake! These people should be jumping up like maniacs and dancing -- I know I would. So if you have some leftover Easter spirit racing through your veins, go on and make some hard boiled eggs and roll with the Monàe groove in your own yard -- or just peep the performances after the bounce and get prepped for Monae's forthcoming follow-up to 2010's The Archandroid, which is appearing later this year. That's a bit easier.
