Like so many current R&B elder statesmen, R. Kelly has found himself turning to the sounds of the past for musical inspiration. His last attempt at this, 2010's Love Letter, proved to be successful, so of course he's going back to the well for more. "Share My Love," the first single from his forthcoming Write Me Back, channels late '70s/early '80s soul through a Teddy Pendergrass lens. The video for the song is what we've come to expect from an R. Kelly production. Playing the ever charismatic lothario, we see R. surrounded by beautiful, provocatively-clad ladies as people dance and drinks are poured. And, while I can't bring myself to keep a straight face when he shouts out "Populate!" toward the song's end, I must admit that I'm kind of digging this song and the trip down R&B's memory lane. We'll see if he can keep this momentum going when Write Me Back drops later this year.
