See How tUnE-yArDs, Questlove & Co. Recreate A 'Lady'

Just last Friday we brought you the reimagining of Fela Kuti's "Lady," which serves as the first release from the upcoming (RED) Hot + Fela compilation. Now there's behind-the-scenes footage of the recording sessions. While it mainly focuses on collaborators Merrill Garbus (aka tUnE-yArDs) and Questlove, each entity involved with the track gets some shine, including Akua Naru and Angelique Kidjo and a myriad of other musicians. In the video, tUnE-yArDs breaks down why she chose to perform "Lady" and the intricacies that come with recreating the tune. Questo, of course, talks about the legacy of Fela and the recent explosion of Afrobeat music stateside. Overall, it's quite interesting to watch the ideas and work behind the collaboration gel into the finished product. Even more heartwarming is the cause for which it was all done. Speaking of the cause, "Lady" not only helps the Red Hot Organization, it's also being used to kick off the (RED) Rush to Zero campaign, a 10-day effort (which kicked off June 1st) to raise money and awareness about HIV awareness from mother to child. So after checking out the clip below, be sure to make your way to the website to see how you can help.
