Yasiin Bey Channels 'The Greatest' For Louis Vuitton

If I had to directly associate Yasiin Bey with something other than his former name, it Mos Def-initely wouldn't be with high fashion. Now I'm not saying that he lacks fashion sense, but something about him doesn't scream "Gucci this, Louis that" like some of his Brooklyn counterparts. Well apparently somebody out in France thought otherwise, as the mighty Mos has been recruited by Louis Vuitton for the brand's The Greatest ad campaign. The two spots, "Dream" and "Words," feature the poet reciting the iconic words of boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Bey, decked out in an all white outfit, floats and stings his way around an illuminated boxing ring surrounded by darkness as artist Niels Shoe Meulman paints in his trademark Calligraffiti style. We're left with elegant and understated spots far from the all-over-print image that I associate with hip-hop rap and these designers. My hat goes off to the director Stuart A. McIntyre. Check the video after the bounce for some literal punchlines in "Dream" before catching more wordplay in "Words."
