Does 'This Feeling' Get You Unbuttoned?

When a musical act first puts a city on the map, it can be difficult for the artists back home to keep from being thrown into that same sound box. Even when support for the hometown hero may be there across the local scene, outside audiences will undoubtedly assume that the style of the breakthrough artist is indicative of everything coming out of that region. Now we all know deep down that this isn't always the case, but it's one of those subconscious assumptions that's hard to shake. Now Toronto is no newcomer when it comes to the hip-hop and R&B music scenes, but the two most notable acts to come out of the city in recent memory have arguably dominated the pop and indy scene of their respective genres leaving us with an impression of what life in the North North sounds like. Well the four-piece collective, Unbuttoned, from the aforementioned city is here to prove that there is more to their music scene than sipping syrup and spending your studio time with colorful trolls. The band's name originally stemmed from the casual dressed-down appearance of vocalist Casey MQ, and this laid-back attitude translates fully in the visual for "This Feeling" from their debut album Electric Kingdom. Unbuttoned opts out of the moody pill popping vibe for a more funky and lighthearted track. Ignore the fact that there are actually balloons in the video or the suspect dance moves (I'm looking at
you Casey!) because these kids are just having fun. Take a look below before stopping by their Bandcamp page for their name-your-price debut, and decide which Toronto sound you prefer to get Unbuttoned to.
