Whenever a new Prince cut is announced, I draw an apprehensive breath. Of course the man could probably write better songs in his sleep than most of these upstarts on their best day. The problem is, I'm beginning to suspect he's been testing out that theory for real in recent years. But "Rock n Roll Love Affair" is a welcome change. The Purple Rain single "Take Me With You" will come to mind early in the song, from its main synth melody to its harmonies and even its spoken female one-liners. This is clearly geared more towards old-school Prince fans than the Top-40 crowd. It's 1984 Prince, just a lot less nasty... which is kind of a shame, but we'll take it. [H/T: DRFB]
