Can You Withstand Lion Babe's 'Fire'?

If you happen to be an avid watcher of RuPaul's Drag Race (don't you stunt queens act like it's just me), then you might be familiar with one Jillian Hervey after her recent feature on the show. If not, then here's one important fact: she's the talented daughter of industry veteran and former Miss America Vanessa Williams. One other fun fact about Jillian is that she's one half of NYC-based group Lion Babe, along with producer Lucas Goodman.

Last month, they dropped their debut single, "Treat Me Like Fire," and over the weekend, they premiered the video for the track and it's...interesting. Ignoring the beginning that features Jillian growling like a Tourette's patient off her meds, I'm not exactly sure what's going on here. The clip pretty much exists to ogle her ASSets body (she appears in daisy dukes, a cutout top and, perhaps most memorably, dressed in gold body paint and a mesh swimsuit and Bebe Zahara Benet's wig from Drag Race season one).

The track itself is fairly decent, with Lucas' dark but entrancing musical backdrop giving a future R&B spin. Unfortunately, Jillian's vocal is giving me knockoff Rihanna vibes. And, while I might be willing to give Rih-bot a break every now and then, a fan of hers I am not. Still, I want to give Ms. Hervey the benefit of the doubt, so I'm not dismissing Lion Babe just yet. Hopefully the next offering will light my fire just a bit more.
