Maya Azucena Wants You To 'Dance' For A 'Revolution'

Vocalist and activist Maya Azucena has made no secret that in this narcissistic day and age that she is one of the few artists who stands for something greater than herself, and she's just released the video for her track "Dance Revolution" to put any lingering doubt to rest. "Dance Revolution" is an uplifting house track that is all about empowerment, and that's a good thing considering Azucena wrote the track for the One Billion Rising campaign, whose aim is to end violence against women through asking one billion women and men worldwide to walk out, dance, rise up and demand an end to violence on February 14th. The music video, which was shot over seven days in three cities with three dance troupes and over two dozen women, sees fierce females not only uniting and uprising but celebrating the strength in femininity. Lyrically the track is a battle cry, a mighty scream to remind all women that we need to stand together and protect ourselves and each other. Azucena sings over the DJ Spinna-produced beat "we have a light to give, we have a right to live" and when this simple yet profound statement is coupled with statistics such as one in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, it's apparent how much all people need to unite and say no to violence and say yes to peace. Any song with these sentiments is more than good in my book.
