LP (aka Lisa Preston) is best known as a vocalist thanks to her work alongside some of the brightest lights on the New Zealand soul/hip-hop scene. Her appearance on Benny Tones Chrysalis was a definite highlight, as was her contribution to Tokyo Dawn's The Heart Vol. 2 alongside producer ClassicBeatz. What I didn't realize is that LP also likes to dabble in the production side of things, and one of the fruits of her labor is this Marvin Gaye edit, entitled "It's A Gaye Thing (Marvin's Groove)." Using the original percussion stems from Marvin's "What's Going On," a cappella vocals from "Sexual Healing" and a few choice rhodes samples, LP has crafted a laid-back, contemporary tribute to one of the greatest that ever did it.
