Substantial Pays Tribute To Jill Scott On 'Golden Lady'

Last month I met Jill Scott for the first time, and I was so enamored by how beautiful and sweet she was that I could barely form a coherent sentence much less operate my phone to take photographs of her. She totally made my life when she told me that she loved my freckles and even when she cracked my face by telling me to get a real camera, it was all love. My brief interaction with her was enough to incite me to chorus, but I'll leave such musical gestures to professionals like Substantial, who is also captivated with the songstress and will soon release a Jill Scott tribute album to prove it. Counting Jilly from Philly amongst his biggest influences, the Jackin' Jill project was born during a time when the rapper was recuperating from surgery after a cancer scare. Almost two years and a clean bill of health later, Substantial is prepping to drop his 17-track homage of reworks and remixes soon. To get us in the groove, he's giving us a sample with the song "Golden Lady," a nod to Jill's hit song "Golden" but moreso a flip of Stevie Wonder's track of the same name from Innervisions. Substantial's "Golden Lady" features Steph The Sapphic Songstress on vocals and production by Marcus D as he relays his admiration for Ms. Scott and gives her props for all the inspiration she's provided. This is a mighty fine teaser, and Substantial has done his job and gotten me open to hear the remainder of Jackin' Jill ASAPtually.
