Bask In This Ray Of 'Sunshine' From Kan Sano

Roy Ayers' classic 1976 album Everybody Loves the Sunshine is not only one of my all-time favorite albums, but it's a part of the soundtrack that is my life. Every time I listen to it, I'm flooded with childhood memories of me digging through my dad's endless boxes of vinyls and reading the inner sleeves of records as if they were paperback romances. The hypnotic title track is truly the signature of Ayers' legendary career as a jazz-funk pioneer and throughout my youth it was heavily sampled with Mos Def, Common and, of course, Mary J. Blige at the helm of those who had Ayers' sounds elevate their work. Still it's always nice to just hear the original song in full, and not just snippets of the lounging synths or the "my life, my life, in the sunshine" refrains. Pianist and producer Kan Sano knows it's all or nothing when it comes to this song as he comes correct with his re-working of "Everybody Loves The Sunshine." Just a little added vocoder and a flavoring of drum beats give this song a modern kick, but thankfully the summer soft vibe of the original is still intact as it glides smoothly along, righting all kinds of wrongs. Give it a spin and also take in the free download to keep the clouds and rain at bay.
