When it was first announced last year that there'd be a sequel to the beloved 1999 film The Best Man, a collective "Hallelujah!" could be heard across the land. It may not have been a blockbuster hit, but it became a favorite amongst "urban" audiences who loved the ensemble romantic comedy with an intelligent script, relatable characters and strong performances from a who's who of young Black Hollywood at the time. Screenwriter/director Malcolm Lee struck a chord amongst moviegoers with The Best Man, and he's hoping to recreate the magic with The Best Man Holiday, which is scheduled to hit the big screen on Friday, November 15th. Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, Terrence Howard, Monica Calhoun, Regina Hall, Harold Perrineau and Melissa de Sousa, who made the original such an awesome piece of cinema with their chemistry, are all back to reprise their characters and bring us up to speed on where their stories went 14 years after the original. Throw in a holiday theme, hopefully another slamming soundtrack (a scene has already been filmed with Anthony Hamilton and Marsha Ambrosius, so fingers are crossed) and you might just have the makings of another future classic. Filming is still underway, but we're getting an early first look in this advance trailer that connects the old to the new and has us here as SBHQ pressed to see the rest.
