Keanna O'Quinn Lets Us Know What 'Foo Wop' Means

Sometimes a song can be as simple as a voice and harmony. That is how Chicago's Keanna O'Quinn introduces herself with "Foo Wop," a dreamy and light love song just in time for summer. "Foo Wop" features just O'Quinn on lead, harmony and background vocals with no music, and for this song, instrumentation would have just gotten in the way. Her voice has the strength of India.Arie and the optimism of Corinne Bailey Rae. According to O'Quinn, "Foo Wop" is defined as an intense, romantic love by a strong, successful woman. The video pays homage to the movie Drive ( which unfortunately I have not seen, but is now on top of my Netflix queue). It shows both sides of love's coin, the dark and destructive side and the beautiful and innocent side. O'Quinn is able to get her point across visually and musically using simplicity. Using just her voice and the song's simple but universal message about being in love, O'Quinn does not try to re-invent the wheel, but she does remind everyone what's there when you remove the studio bells and whistles.
