Even though I'm in a love affair with soul music's future funk and electro-smoothie change of dress, there is something about Stephanie Nicole and her Voices EP that reminds me of those days when Res released How I Do, Esthero gave us Breath Of Another and Cree Summer fluttered in with Street Faerie. Voices has that same feel of earthy homegrown lounge-soul that is ripe for the picking and perfect for moments of musing and just to chill-out. Only clocking in with four songs, Stephanie Nicole proves that good things come in small packages as she exudes such variant grooves like the gorgeous opener "Soulutionary One" and the cheeky '90's trip-hop revamp on "Buddha In Aruba."
