The Virginia State University Gospel Choir Takes 'America's Got Talent' To Another Level

As the weather heats up and the summer kicks off, so does another wave of television series and talent competitions. This month saw the return of NBC's hit show America's Got Talent, which is now in its eighth season and features Mel B., Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern as judges along with Nick Cannon as the host. Honestly, this amplified variety show, in all of its fire breathing and synchronized swimming glory, is an acquired taste. But last night's audition episode saw an unexpected soulful twist, as the Virginia State University Gospel Choir took to the stage and performed a rousing rendition of Ricky Dillard's "Search Me Lord." From the unmatchable choreography to the vocal acrobatics of Bernard Walker, this group of collegiate performers brought a level of faith and talent that is undeniable, leaving the judges and audience awestruck. "It's not like the average gospel choir and that's what I liked about it," Mel B. said. Needless to say, this group of incredibly talented performers made it to the next round, and we look forward to watching them progress as the show moves to Las Vegas in the coming weeks.
