The last time that M.I.A. dropped a video, it was so eye-poppingly amazing that it earned her Video of the Year honors in our year-end review. So will her video for single "Bring the Noize" once again secure her that title? Probably not. With such a frenetic, noise-filled beat, you'd expect some visuals that match the music. Instead, she takes us to...a white party? Yes, it seems that is exactly what we're witnessing as the beat drops and the camera focuses on M.I.A. during the first verse. Folks dance and cavort to the beat as the song wears on and the trouble starting Sri Lankan spits. All in all, it's a pretty typical hip hop video and is perhaps the most subdued entry in M.I.A.'s video oeuvre. Where are the bright colors? The seizure-inducing graphics? The cars riding on two wheels? I was hoping that this clip would overwhelm my senses much like her earlier work, so I must say that I'm sorely disappointed. Oh well, at least the song still bangs.
