It's kind of common knowledge that if you want to drop a scandal to the media, you do it on Friday. I don't know how this works into the 24-hour news cycle we live in now, but Jesse Boykins III thought he was slick dropping his P.O.P. [People or Purpose] EP on last Friday, giving everyone the opportunity to sit with his work through the weekend. It's chock full of the songs he's been releasing over the past few weeks, including his cover of Drake's "You're Doing It Wrong." Other covers include his sultry spin on Chris Brown's "Beautiful People," Coldplay's "Sparks" and "Waiting in Vein," an twist on Bob Marley's classic. Other treats include include "B4 the Weeknd is Thru," featuring my favorite emo-trill vocalist The Weeknd on Jesse's own "B4 the Night is Thru." Boykins brings his rhythmic, intentional style to this entire project, making this joint worth many listens.
