Bruno Mars Bangs With 'Gorilla' On The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards

A very close second to the condensed Justin Timberlake concert on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards for performance of the night was Bruno Mars' performance of his new single "Gorilla." Bruno had only a few minutes to make his mark compared to JT's 15+ minute-long segment, but that was all the time he needed to leave a lasting impression. Perched high above The Hooligans on a platform, Mars sang in front of a massive video screen that flashed pictures of palm trees and a menacing gorilla, the song's mascot of sorts. Green laser-like lights cut through the Barclays Center adding some necessary drama and punctuating the song as needed while Bruno passionately sang about that down and dirty, hot and sweaty, animalistic kinda loving. I usually tune into Bruno Mars' live performances to watch his band put it down, but the focus was all on him last night and after a few pelvic thrusts and a hair-grabbing motion that gave me flashbacks, I was all in. Not to mention that he sounded superb, clocking in the best live vocal of the night free from any technical difficulties. I'll admit to sleeping on Unorthodox Jukebox as a whole after loving the singles "Locked Out of Heaven," "When I Was Your Man" and "Treasure," so seeing "Gorilla" performed last night was just the shot of espresso I needed to wake me up and signal to me that I've potentially been missing out on some jams.
